Taliban Delegation Requests Russian Support to Control Foot-and-Mouth Disease

DID Press: A delegation from Taliban’s Ministry of Agriculture has requested assistance from Russia to secure vaccines for controlling foot-and-mouth disease, according to reports.

During a visit to Moscow, the delegation held discussions on veterinary and agricultural monitoring systems and reviewed Russia’s quality control mechanisms in animal health and agriculture. The Afghan side described these systems as essential for improving the country’s livestock and farming sectors.

Members of the delegation emphasized that the spread of livestock diseases, particularly foot-and-mouth disease, remains a major challenge for Afghan farmers and herders. They noted that access to vaccines and modern monitoring systems could play a key role in containing the outbreak.

The visit is part of broader efforts to strengthen technical and agricultural cooperation between Kabul and Moscow. Officials expect that, if an agreement is reached, Russia could assist Afghanistan in vaccine supply and technical expertise transfer.
