Taliban Official Meets EU Envoy, Emphasizes Expansion of Sustainable Cooperation

DID Press: Mohammad Naeem, Deputy Minister for Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Taliban-led Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with Gilles Bertrand, the European Union’s Special Representative, for talks on expanding bilateral relations.

According to the ministry, both sides discussed strengthening cooperation in political, economic and trade sectors, as well as developing long-term and sustainable engagement.

Naeem emphasized the importance of balanced relations based on mutual respect and urged the European Union to shift its assistance to Afghanistan from short-term projects toward long-term development programs.

The EU envoy, meanwhile, assured continued engagement with Afghanistan, stating that European markets remain open to Afghan exports and that efforts are underway to facilitate greater access for Afghan goods to European markets.

The meeting comes as Afghanistan seeks to strengthen economic ties and attract international support amid ongoing challenges.
