Jeffrey Sachs Warns Hormuz Disruption Could Paralyze Global Supply Chains

DID Press: Jeffrey Sachs, a prominent US economist and head of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, has warned that continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz could trigger a severe global economic crisis.

Speaking in an interview with Tucker Carlson, Sachs said early signs of a global economic downturn are already emerging. He attributed the risk to the potential closure of one of the world’s most critical strategic waterways, through which vast quantities of essential commodities—including oil, natural gas, fertilizers, petrochemical products, and metals such as aluminum—are transported.

He emphasized that prolonged disruption in the strait could severely undermine global supply chains and produce wide-ranging economic consequences for multiple countries.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump, speaking to reporters at the White House, said the continued closure of the waterway is linked to demands the United States has made of Iran.

Experts warn that any prolonged disruption along this vital maritime corridor could sharply drive up global energy prices and push the world economy into a period of significant instability.
