Trump Dismisses All Members of US National Science Board
DID Press: Donald Trump’s administration dismissed multiple members of the National Science Board, in a move that has drawn sharp criticism from lawmakers and the scientific community.

According to reports, scientists and engineers serving on the board received letters on Friday from the White House personnel office informing them that their membership had been terminated “effective immediately.”
The National Science Board, established in 1950 to guide the work of the National Science Foundation, is traditionally regarded as an independent and nonpartisan body. Its members are typically appointed to six-year terms to ensure institutional continuity and policy stability.
The National Science Foundation has played a pivotal role in funding research that contributed to major technological advancements, including MRI scanner, modern mobile communications, and laser eye surgery.
In response, Zoe Lofgren strongly condemned the decision, describing it as a blow to science and innovation in the United States.
Lofgren warned that removing members of a nonpolitical scientific advisory body could undermine long-term research leadership and raise concerns about political influence over national science policy.
It remains unclear whether new members will be appointed to replace those dismissed.
