Sweden Funds Expanded Support Services for Afghan Returnees

DID Press: International Organization for Migration has announced that Sweden’s Ministry of Justice has provided new funding to support returning migrants and vulnerable communities in Afghanistan.

IOM said the funding will be used to strengthen sustainable reintegration, create job opportunities, expand support services, and reduce drivers of irregular migration. The 13-month program will enhance counselling, referral services, and economic assistance through community resource centers in areas heavily affected by returnee inflows.

Mihyung Park stated that the assistance arrives at a critical time and will help improve community stability and resilience.

The Swedish Ministry of Justice is described as one of the key global donors supporting IOM’s programs focused on migrant return and reintegration.
