DID Press: A covert branch of Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, has been operating since 2021 with the mission of conducting psychological and cyber operations against Iran, according to a report by Israel Hayom. The report claims the unit uses thousands of fake social media accounts to amplify public discontent and undermine confidence in Iran’s political system.
According to the newspaper, the secret division was established under the direction of David Barnea, who reportedly instructed the agency to focus less on traditional assassination operations and more on information warfare, cyber activities, and influence campaigns.
The report states that the unit employs specialists in social media analysis, psychological operations, and strategic communications. Through what it describes as a “disinformation machine,” the branch allegedly seeks to identify existing social grievances inside Iran and intensify them through coordinated online campaigns.
Israel Hayom said the ultimate objective of the operation is to generate internal instability and weaken the foundations of the Iranian political system.
