Netanyahu Holds Emergency Meeting as Hezbollah Rocket Fire Intensifies

DID Press: Benjamin Netanyahu has convened an emergency security meeting with ministers and senior military commanders following a sharp escalation in cross-border hostilities in northern areas, according to Israeli media reports.

Channel 13 reported that Israel’s military was taken by surprise by the scale of rocket fire and what it described as a shift in operational tactics by Hezbollah, in response to expanded Israeli ground operations in southern Lebanon.

The report said dozens of rockets were launched from Lebanese territory into northern Israel, marking the first time since the April 17 ceasefire that projectiles reached the cities of Safed and Nahariya.

Channel 13 also described conditions in northern Israel as increasingly chaotic, claiming that the government response has been insufficient given the severity of the situation.

In recent weeks, increased drone activity attributed to Hezbollah has further raised security concerns. Netanyahu has previously described these drones as a major threat due to the difficulty in detecting and intercepting them.

The escalation comes despite a 45-day extension of a ceasefire agreement reached on May 17 through indirect negotiations mediated by the United States, while Israeli strikes in Lebanon have reportedly continued.
