Taliban Leader Says Amnesty Intended to Prevent Revenge Violence
DID Press: Hibatullah Akhundzada said the Taliban’s general amnesty decree was issued to prevent acts of revenge and promote stability, according to a statement released after a meeting with governors from nine northern and northeastern Afghan provinces.

The Taliban said Akhundzada, speaking at a gathering in Kandahar, stressed that the purpose of the amnesty was to ensure peace and security and to prevent cycles of retaliatory violence.
He urged religious scholars and local elders to encourage reconciliation, forgiveness, and the resolution of long-standing disputes, saying future generations should not become trapped in recurring blood feuds.
Akhundzada described peace among Muslims as a significant virtue and called for greater efforts to strengthen social harmony and local conflict resolution.
According to the Taliban, the meeting was attended by provincial governors, senior religious scholars, judicial officials, and other local authorities. Akhundzada reportedly instructed officials to uphold justice, avoid administrative negligence, implement Taliban directives, and promote religious observance.
The statement added that he emphasized the enforcement of Islamic law, stronger cooperation among religious scholars, and the continued implementation of the Taliban’s policies on promoting virtue and preventing vice.
Taliban officials said participants at the meeting also renewed their pledge of allegiance to Akhundzada.
