Increased Activity by Commander Juma Khan Fateh Reported in Badakhshan
DID Press: Local sources in northeastern Afghanistan report a renewed build-up of forces by Juma Khan Fateh in the Darwaz region of Badakhshan Province, following his dismissal from a government position and rejection of reported reconciliation proposals from Kabul.

According to local residents, Fateh has recently intensified movements in the Nasi district, where he has held extensive meetings with local communities and placed his forces on heightened readiness.
Two informed sources who recently met the commander said Taliban authorities attempted to open dialogue and offer new arrangements, but Fateh rejected the proposals, stating that he remains in his “home area” and does not seek an official position.
He reportedly added that he would not initiate any armed confrontation, while maintaining a defensive posture.
Despite his stance, sources claim that Fateh’s forces remain fully organized and operational, with preparations in place for potential developments in the region.
Known among supporters as the “Conqueror of Darwaz,” Fateh previously served as deputy governor of Zabul province before being removed amid reported disagreements with Taliban leadership in Kandahar over local resource management and gold mining revenues.
Analysts say his removal without reassignment is part of broader internal power restructuring within the Taliban, particularly affecting non-Pashtun commanders.
The developments have raised concerns over possible escalation between the commander’s network and Taliban central leadership, although no official response has been issued by the authorities so far.
