Taliban, UN Official Discuss Support for Afghan Returnees
DID Press: Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, met with a senior United Nations official to discuss the situation of Afghan refugees, humanitarian and development assistance for returnees, and ways to strengthen future cooperation.

During the meeting, Baradar stressed the need for increased UN development assistance, saying expanded support could help provide essential services—including housing, education, electricity, and employment opportunities—for returning refugees and internally displaced people.
The UN official reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting the Afghan people and pledged to continue efforts to mobilize additional international assistance for Afghanistan.
