Haqqani, UNHCR Discuss Support for Afghan Refugees

DID Press: Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s acting interior minister, met with UN refugee officials to discuss the situation of Afghan refugees and ways to strengthen cooperation on humanitarian assistance and support for returnees.

According to a statement from the Taliban’s Interior Ministry, Haqqani met with Filippo Grandi, Arafat Jamal, and their accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Grandi reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to continue supporting Afghan refugees, assisting returning Afghans, and providing humanitarian aid.

Haqqani expressed appreciation for the agency’s cooperation and stressed the importance of sustained international support for addressing the needs of Afghan refugees and returnees.
