DID Press: Spain became the first team to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup final after defeating France 2-0 in the first semifinal, extending their unbeaten run and booking a place in the tournament’s showpiece match.
Spain controlled the game from the opening stages and took the lead in the 22nd minute when Mikel Oyarzabal converted a penalty. Pedro Porro doubled the advantage in the 58th minute, sealing a deserved victory for La Roja.
Despite fielding stars including Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé and Michael Olise, France failed to break through Spain’s disciplined defense and missed out on a place in the World Cup final for the first time in two consecutive editions. Spain also extended its unbeaten streak to 38 matches, underlining its dominant form.
The second World Cup semifinal will be played tonight between Argentina and England. The winner will face Spain in the final, while the losing side will meet France in the third-place playoff.
