Taliban Says Political Activists Have Key Role in Afghanistan’s Reconstruction

DID Press: Afghanistan’s Taliban-led Ministry of Foreign Affairs says political movements and activists can play a significant role in the country’s reconstruction and development by upholding Islamic values, safeguarding national interests, and serving the Afghan people.

Zia Ahmad Takal, deputy spokesperson for the ministry, wrote on X on Tuesday that Afghanistan has entered a new phase of reconstruction, stability, and development after years of war and hardship.

He said the responsible participation of political activists within the framework of Islamic values and national interests could contribute to the country’s progress and improve public services for citizens.

The remarks come as political participation in Afghanistan remains a subject of debate. Many analysts argue that the Taliban’s continued concentration of power remains one of the principal obstacles to establishing an inclusive and accountable political system, limiting the meaningful participation of political actors in the country’s reconstruction and development.
