DID Press: Russia’s official gold reserves have fallen to their lowest level in more than six years, according to new data from the country’s central bank, reflecting a continued decline in bullion holdings during 2026.

Official figures from the Central Bank of Russia show that the country’s gold reserves stood at 73.4 million troy ounces as of July 1, 2026, the lowest level recorded since February 2020.
Monthly data indicate a steady downward trend, with reserves totaling 73.7 million troy ounces on June 1 and 73.9 million troy ounces on May 1.
Reports indicate that Russia sold 6 metric tons of gold in June alone. Since the beginning of 2026, the country has sold a total of 34 metric tons, significantly reducing its gold holdings compared with levels seen before recent geopolitical and economic crises.
The decline comes as many other central banks continue to increase their gold reserves. According to the World Gold Council, central banks worldwide added a combined 41 metric tons of gold in May, highlighting a contrasting trend in global reserve management.
