DID Press: Afghanistan’s National Resistance Front (NRF) has claimed responsibility for an overnight attack on a Taliban checkpoint in the western province of Herat, saying one Taliban member was killed and three others wounded. The claims could not be independently verified.
In a statement, the NRF said its fighters attacked the “Antenna Checkpoint” in Farsi district at around 10 p.m. local time on Sunday.
The group said one Taliban fighter was killed, three others were wounded, and its forces seized four weapons from the checkpoint.
Local sources confirmed that fighting took place in Farsi district, saying NRF fighters attempted to overrun the checkpoint but were ultimately unable to capture it.
The Taliban have not commented on the reported attack or the claimed casualties.
The incident comes amid reports of increased attacks by anti-Taliban groups in several parts of Afghanistan, particularly in Badakhshan province.
On Monday, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid dismissed reports of recent clashes in Badakhshan as “media propaganda” and said the Taliban was prepared to pay a higher price to maintain its rule.
Former Afghan Interior Minister Ali Ahmad Jalali said the recent developments could signal the beginning of a gradual public uprising against Taliban policies.
