DID Press: A 90-minute meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump at the White House produced no clear outcome regarding Iran, despite Netanyahu’s positive remarks afterward, with attention focusing largely on issues that were not discussed.
The meeting took place after Netanyahu attended the funeral ceremony of US Senator Lindsey Graham and included senior officials from both sides, including US Vice President JD Vance. The White House described the talks as “constructive,” but no joint press conference was held following the meeting.
Netanyahu later called the discussion “one of the best conversations” he had held with Trump, but the only specific issue he highlighted was an agreement between the two sides to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Reports said that, contrary to earlier speculation, the two leaders did not discuss a possible Israeli strike on Iran’s so-called “Peacock Mountain” facilities or the withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas outside Israel’s internationally recognized borders.
The reports added that Trump had said in an interview with Fox News hours before the meeting that he did not need Netanyahu’s advice to make decisions on such matters, which may have contributed to the issues not being raised during the talks.
The renewed emphasis by Trump and Netanyahu on preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons suggests an effort to shift attention back toward Tehran’s nuclear program, while regional tensions have increasingly centered on broader issues, including security around the Strait of Hormuz.
