Afghanistan Launches 10-Day Nationwide Polio Vaccination Campaign

DID Press: Afghanistan on Saturday launched a 10-day nationwide polio vaccination campaign aimed at immunizing about 10 million children, following the reporting of 11 polio cases in the country since the beginning of 2026.

The Afghanistan Polio-Free Initiative said the campaign began across the country on Saturday, with around 10 million children expected to receive polio vaccines.

Children will also receive measles and pentavalent vaccines as part of the campaign to strengthen protection against diseases including diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae type B infections.

The World Health Organization has reported 11 polio cases in Afghanistan since the start of 2026.The vaccination campaign will continue for 10 days.
