Three Afghan Migrants Killed in Italy Returned to Afghanistan for Burial After 2 Months

DID Press: The bodies of three Afghan migrants who were killed and their vehicle set on fire in southern Italy were repatriated to Afghanistan nearly two months after the incident, according to Taliban migration authorities. The case remains under judicial investigation in Italy following the arrest of two Pakistani suspects.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said the victims’ remains were transferred to Kabul on July 27 and 28 before being sent to their home areas for burial in Sholgara district of Balkh province, Kabul’s District 12 and Koh Safi district of Parwan province.

According to Italian authorities, the three Afghan nationals and one Pakistani citizen were attacked inside a vehicle in the southern region of Calabria on June 2. The vehicle was subsequently set on fire. Italian police later arrested two Pakistani nationals on suspicion of murder and arson in connection with the case.

The Taliban ministry identified the Afghan victims as Ismatullah, Amjad Safi and Fazl Amin, saying they were originally from Balkh, Nangarhar and Parwan provinces.

Italian authorities have not yet released further information regarding the prosecution or the progress of judicial proceedings against the suspects.
