NRC Presents 4-Year Afghanistan Strategy to Taliban Officials

DID Press: Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has presented its four-year strategy for Afghanistan to Taliban officials, outlining plans to continue humanitarian and development assistance despite declining international funding.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan, acting Economy Minister Qari Din Mohammad Hanif met with Taria Magnussen-Waterdal and her delegation to discuss expanding cooperation, sustaining humanitarian and development programs, and the NRC’s long-term strategy for the country.

The NRC said its four-year plan is centered on three main priorities: food security, natural resource management, and health and rehabilitation services. The strategy also includes vocational training and capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening community resilience.

The organization said engagement with Afghan institutions remains an essential part of its approach and expressed its intention to help present what it described as a more accurate picture of Afghanistan to the international community. It also pledged to continue supporting people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups despite reductions in international aid.

Hanif welcomed the NRC’s continued engagement and emphasized the importance of coordination between the Ministry of Economy and national and international organizations to improve the implementation of humanitarian and development projects.

He described the NRC’s four-year strategy as a positive step toward improving livelihoods in Afghanistan and said the ministry would support initiatives that contribute to national development, economic growth, sustainable employment and public welfare.
