Pakistan: Afghan National Carried Out Deadly Swat Suicide Bombing

DID Press: Pakistani authorities say preliminary investigations indicate that the suicide bomber behind the deadly attack on a police facility in the Swat district was an Afghan national, although officials acknowledge that the inquiry remains ongoing and have not released evidence supporting the claim.

According to Pakistani media, security officials said the severed head of the suspected attacker was recovered at the blast site, and initial forensic assessments suggested he was an Afghan citizen. Authorities said further investigations are underway and that no additional documentation or evidence has yet been made public to substantiate the allegation.

The attack occurred on Sunday near the entrance to the Kabal police station in Pakistan’s northwestern Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, coinciding with a public demonstration against deteriorating security in the area. At least 14 people were killed and 18 others injured in the explosion.

Senior local police official Fida Hussain told Reuters that the dead included five police officers and eight civilians, while the fourteenth fatality was believed to be the suspected suicide bomber.

The militant group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement released shortly after the bombing.
