Herat Authorities Set Rent Cap to Curb Housing Price Increases

DID Press: Taliban authorities in Afghanistan’s western Herat province have introduced a new rent ceiling for residential properties, setting prices at 2023 rates plus a 10 percent increase in an effort to control rising housing costs and protect tenants.

The Herat Directorate of Justice announced that a committee including relevant government departments has been formed to prevent excessive rent increases and monitor housing transactions.

According to the announcement, landlords have been instructed to avoid demanding unreasonable rents, while real estate agencies have been ordered not to register rental agreements above the approved rates.

The committee will also oversee real estate offices to prevent additional commissions, excessive advance payments and transactions considered unlawful under existing regulations.

The notice warned that violations would be dealt with according to the law.
