China Warns Over Japan’s Alleged Push for Nuclear Weapons

DID Press: China has warned that efforts by some Japanese right-wing groups to pursue nuclear weapons are concerning, as Beijing marked the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry said at a press conference on Thursday that while the tragedy of nuclear weapons must never be repeated, the historical context surrounding the bombing should also not be forgotten.

The spokesperson accused right-wing groups in Japan of using the Hiroshima bombing to gain sympathy and avoid accountability for Japan’s wartime actions, which the official said resulted in the deaths of millions of people in neighboring countries.

China’s Foreign Ministry also expressed concern over what it described as efforts by some right-wing groups in Japan to acquire nuclear weapons.

The spokesperson said that despite the passage of decades since the Tokyo Trials, questions over Japan’s approach to its wartime history remain unresolved.
