Malala Yousafzai: Taliban Rule Has Created ‘Gender Apartheid’ in Afghanistan
DID Press: As Afghanistan marks the fifth anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power, Nobel laureate and education rights activist Malala Yousafzai has described the situation facing women and girls in the country as “gender apartheid.”

As the fifth anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power approaches, Yousafzai strongly criticized the group’s policies toward women and girls.
She said the Taliban had “nothing to celebrate” when it comes to the rights of women and girls, describing the current situation in Afghanistan as a clear example of “gender apartheid.”
Yousafzai also highlighted the resistance of Afghan women, emphasizing that they have not backed down in the face of systematic restrictions.
According to Yousafzai, women both inside and outside Afghanistan continue to work to defend their fundamental rights and hold Taliban authorities accountable.
