5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan, Tremors Felt in Mashhad

DID Press: A magnitude-5.2 earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan on Tuesday evening, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), which recorded the quake at a depth of 188 km.

Tremors were felt across several parts of Afghanistan, including Herat, Kabul, Badakhshan, Jalalabad and Samangan, as well as neighboring districts.

Local media reported that residents in Herat took to the streets following the earthquake. Afghan television channels said there were no reports of major damage.

The tremors were also felt in Iran, including Mashhad and Taybad. No damage has so far been reported in Iran’s Razavi Khorasan province.

The earthquake highlights the persistent seismic risk in the Hindu Kush, one of the most active earthquake zones in the region.
