Sumud Flotilla Announces New Mission to Gaza in October

DID Press: The Freedom Flotilla (Sumud) Coalition has announced plans to launch a new international maritime mission to the Gaza Strip in October, seeking to challenge Israel’s naval blockade and build public pressure in Europe over restrictions on the enclave.

The coalition said the current port-to-port campaign has involved vessels visiting ports in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, while another vessel, the Kate, has made stops in Ireland, Germany and France. The flotilla is expected to visit Spain, Portugal and Italy before continuing toward Gaza.

The organizers said the European stops are intended to mobilize public support and pressure governments to halt arms and energy shipments to Israel, end diplomatic and military cooperation, and impose sanctions. These are the coalition’s demands and should not be construed as independently established facts.

Zohar Chamberlain-Regev, a member of the coalition’s steering committee, said the flotilla would seek to bring the demand for Palestinian freedom and international solidarity to Gaza’s shores in October.

The planned voyage follows previous flotilla attempts to reach Gaza that were intercepted by Israeli forces. Al Jazeera reported that more than 450 participants were detained in October 2025 and about 175 more in April 2026.

The coalition has called on governments to ensure safe and unhindered passage for the vessels and for immediate, unrestricted access to food, water, medicine and other essential supplies in Gaza.
