DID Press: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has said that 54 officers and government employees have faced suspension or dismissal as part of an anti-corruption crackdown ordered by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
According to Bokhari, the provincial government has made the fight against corruption a priority and is taking action against officials accused of corrupt practices across government departments.
The Food Department has been a particular focus of the campaign. Officials said 48 officers and employees have faced action in the department, while six employees were dismissed from service. Disciplinary proceedings have also been initiated against 14 food controllers over alleged corruption.
The crackdown follows orders from Maryam Nawaz for provincial departments to take action against officials allegedly involved in corrupt practices. Reports said several Food Grain Inspectors and other officials in Bahawalpur were among those dismissed.
Pakistan continues to face significant concerns over perceived public-sector corruption. Transparency International’s 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index ranks 182 countries and territories. Its current Pakistan country profile gives the country a score of 28 out of 100 and places it 136th, with lower scores indicating higher perceived corruption.
