Taliban to Establish Aerospace Faculty at Kabul Polytechnic University

DID Press: Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education has announced plans to establish an Aerospace Faculty at Kabul Polytechnic University, describing it as the first such faculty in Afghanistan’s higher education system.

According to the ministry, the faculty will operate at the bachelor’s level and will include four specialized departments.

The departments planned for the new faculty are Unmanned Aircraft and Unmanned Systems Engineering, Aircraft Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Radar and Avionics Engineering.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education said the establishment of the faculty is part of a decision by the Higher Education Council to create 28 new faculties and 29 new academic programmes at public and private universities across Afghanistan.

The ministry said the new programmes are intended to expand educational capacity and train professional personnel capable of meeting the country’s technical needs.

In addition to the Aerospace Faculty, several new doctoral and medical subspecialty programmes have also been approved.

However, the ministry has not yet provided further details on the specialized equipment, laboratories or teaching staff required to launch the Aerospace Faculty.

The announcement of programmes related to unmanned aircraft, radar and avionics comes amid questions over universities’ practical ability to provide the necessary educational infrastructure and technical facilities for such specialized fields.
