Abdullah: Massoud Devoted His Life to National Unity and Consensus

DID Press: Dr. Abdullah, former chairman of Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation, described Ahmad Shah Massoud as a “national hero” and a selfless figure who devoted his life to Afghanistan in a message marking the 25th anniversary of Massoud’s assassination.

Abdullah said Massoud, recognizing his responsibility toward the Afghan people and the country, consistently placed collective interests above personal, group and ethnic interests.

He added that Massoud regarded division, fragmentation and a lack of trust among Afghanistan’s ethnic communities as factors behind collective failure and worked until the end of his life to build unity and consensus among the country’s various ethnic groups.

Ahmad Shah Massoud was assassinated on September 9, 2001 (18 Sunbula 1380 in the Solar Hijri calendar) in Takhar in a suicide attack carried out by two assailants who had posed as journalists.
