DID Press: Several U.S. military aircraft were damaged when Iran launched missile strikes against the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, CBS News reported, citing sources familiar with the incident. Reuters independently reported the damage on Thursday.
According to the report, eight F-15 fighter jets sustained minor damage in the attacks. The aircraft were subsequently returned to service, according to people familiar with the situation.
An A-10 Thunderbolt II, also known as the “Warthog,” was also hit and suffered significant damage, including the loss of one of its wings.
CBS reported that no new U.S. fatalities were reported in connection with the latest attack. Jordan said it intercepted 18 Iranian missiles during the September 8 attack.
U.S. forces reportedly fired more than 30 Patriot missiles to intercept the Iranian missiles. Reports have also raised concerns among U.S. officials about the rapidly declining stockpile of Patriot interceptors and other precision-guided munitions.
The attack came amid a renewed escalation between Iran and the United States after U.S. forces struck Iranian oil tankers. Iran subsequently launched missile attacks against U.S. targets in Jordan.
