China Offers to Help Promote Peace and Stability in Middle East

DID Press: Chinese President Xi Jinping said China is ready to work with other BRICS members to help promote peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region, as he attended the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Saturday.

Xi said China will assume the BRICS chairmanship next year and host the bloc’s 19th summit. The 18th BRICS Summit is being held in New Delhi on Sept. 12–13.

Emphasizing the role of BRICS in global developments, Xi said China is prepared to cooperate with other members of the group in efforts to help establish peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region.

The Chinese president also described the ongoing wars in the region as causing heavy human casualties, saying continued conflicts in the Middle East and the Gulf are inconsistent with the common interests of the international community.

In another part of his remarks, Xi called for expanded cooperation among BRICS members in artificial intelligence and proposed using the bloc’s AI capabilities to advance a new phase of industrialization.

China has previously hosted the BRICS leaders’ summit three times. Beijing will host next year’s summit as BRICS continues to expand its membership and role as a major framework for cooperation among developing countries and emerging economies.
