Guterres Calls for an End to ‘Gradual Annexation’ of West Bank
DID Press: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed concern over the situation of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, calling for the full implementation of the Gaza peace plan, unrestricted humanitarian access and an immediate ceasefire.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the UN General Assembly’s high-level week, Guterres said the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank must not be forgotten. He urged all parties to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches people in need without hindrance.
Guterres also called for an end to what he described as the “gradual annexation of the West Bank,” stressing that there can be no peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution.
The UN chief said an immediate ceasefire should be established as a first step toward what he described as a just, lasting and comprehensive peace.
Guterres has repeatedly called for the protection of civilians, unrestricted humanitarian access and a political process aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
