Khalilzad Questions Pakistan’s Commitment to Afghan Women’s Rights

DID Press: Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. special representative for Afghanistan, has questioned Pakistan’s commitment to the rights of Afghan women and girls following remarks by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Khalilzad said in a post on X that Pakistan’s three-decade record regarding Afghanistan raises doubts about the sincerity of Shehbaz Sharif’s stated commitment to the fundamental rights of Afghan women and girls.

He pointed to Pakistan’s past policies toward Afghanistan, including its alleged support for armed groups fighting U.S. forces and its treatment of Afghan migrants, as factors that he said should be considered when assessing Islamabad’s position on women’s rights in Afghanistan.
