TAPI Gas Pipeline Reaches Outskirts of Herat

DID Press: Officials of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project have announced that the pipeline has reached the outskirts of Herat city, with efforts underway to extend it into the city and to Herat’s industrial park.

Muhammadmyrat Amanov, CEO of the TAPI Pipeline Company Limited, discussed the pipeline’s extension into the city and the preparations required for this stage with Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the Taliban governor of Herat.

Amanov also said project officials were working to complete the necessary measures to bring the gas pipeline into Herat city and the province’s industrial park.

The TAPI project is more than 1,800 km long, with more than 820 km of the pipeline running through Afghanistan. The pipeline will transport Turkmenistan’s gas through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India.

According to announced estimates, Afghanistan will receive between 500 million and 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas annually from the project in three phases.

Afghanistan is expected to earn about $400 million annually in transit fees from the transportation of gas through TAPI to Pakistan and India.

Recent Afghan government figures indicate that construction of the Herat section is progressing, with 122.3 km of pipeline already welded and laid as of mid-September 2026.
