DID Press: The secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has warned that the military-political situation in the organization’s area of responsibility is deteriorating and that the risk of conflict in border areas is increasing.

Talatbek Masadykov, secretary general of the CSTO, made the remarks at the closing ceremony of the organization’s Collective Rapid Reaction Forces exercise, saying the military-political situation within the CSTO’s area of responsibility is “sharply deteriorating.”
He added that areas of instability are expanding and that the potential for conflict in border regions is increasing.
Masadykov made the comments at the conclusion of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces exercise. The CSTO’s official website confirms that the organization’s Interaction-2026, Search-2026 and Echelon-2026 exercises have been underway in Russia, including preparations for a joint operation to localize a simulated cross-border armed conflict.
