DID Press: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has announced the dissolution of Parliament and called an early general election for November 29, following increased political pressure on his government and the defeat of two emergency housing measures in Parliament.

Sánchez announced on Monday that he was initiating the process to dissolve the Cortes Generales and that Spaniards would vote in a snap election on November 29. The decision followed the government’s parliamentary defeat over two housing decrees aimed at addressing the country’s housing crisis.
The two measures were rejected in Parliament last week after the opposition People’s Party (PP), Vox and Catalan party Junts voted against them. The measures included protections for vulnerable tenants and other provisions related to the housing and rental market.
If the legal procedures are completed as scheduled, November 29 will be the earliest possible date for the snap election. Under Spanish electoral law, an early election follows a legally defined timetable after the formal dissolution decree is published.
