Afghan Migrants Reportedly Tortured Near Türkiye-Iran Border
DID Press: Reports indicate that a number of Afghan migrants were subjected to alleged abuse and torture by Turkish police after being detained near the Iran–Türkiye border, with some reportedly suffering broken fingers in their hands and feet in the border area near Maku.

The incident reportedly occurred as Afghan migrants attempted to cross from Iran into Türkiye. According to the reports, Turkish police mistreated some of the migrants.
Large numbers of Afghan migrants are currently living in Iran, and some have been travelling from their places of residence towards the Turkish border in an attempt to enter Türkiye and eventually reach European countries.
The reports have raised concerns about the migrants’ safety and treatment, calling for greater attention to their protection and conditions along migration routes.
The latest allegations come amid previous reports of mistreatment of Afghan migrants along the Iran–Türkiye border. In July 2026, the BBC reported that 12 Afghan migrants said Turkish border forces had beaten members of a group of approximately 50 migrants, stripped them of their clothes and abandoned them near the Iranian border in freezing conditions.
According to that report, 11 of the migrants who spoke to the BBC subsequently lost body parts because of severe frostbite.
However, further details have not yet emerged about the exact number of migrants injured in the latest incident, their medical conditions or whether an official investigation has been launched.
