Pakistan Says It Struck Taliban Positions in South Waziristan

DID Press: Pakistani officials have claimed that security forces attacked several Taliban checkpoints and defensive positions after Afghan Taliban forces allegedly opened fire on Pakistani border posts in the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan.

According to the deputy commissioner of South Waziristan, the firing began on Sunday from Taliban border posts. Pakistani forces responded by targeting multiple positions, mortar deployment sites and defensive installations.

The official claimed that following the Pakistani response, Afghan Taliban forces abandoned their positions and withdrew from the area.

He added that no casualties had so far been reported in Pakistani border areas and that the country’s security forces remained prepared to respond to any possible further action.

The incident comes days after a border clash between the two sides in the Angoor Adda bazaar.
