DID Press: Results from three electoral contests in Brazil, the occupied Palestinian territories and the United States have posed significant challenges to the political standing of prominent right-wing figures and movements.

In Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro lost the presidential election and subsequently left the country.
In the occupied Palestinian territories, the number of seats held by Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition in the 120-member parliament fell from 68 to 53. Meanwhile, representatives of Palestinian parties increased their representation to a historic 19 seats, giving them a more prominent role in parliamentary politics.
In the United States, midterm election results have also significantly weakened the Republican Party’s position in Congress. Losing their majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate is expected to make the final two years of Donald Trump’s presidency more challenging.
