Changes in Electoral Oath turned Controversial in Pakistan

Hundreds of Islamists protested in recent days due to omitting a reference to the Prophet Muhammad in a new version of the electoral oath by the Pakistani law minister.
According to Pakistani media, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi took the decision to summon the Army to disperse the protesters.
The protesters have been blocking the highway for several weeks, demanding the sacking of Law Minister Zahid Hamid whom they accuse of blasphemy.
The protests have spread to other cities, including Lahore, Punjab, Karachi, and Faisalabad.

Pakistani media report that demonstrators also broke into the minister’s residence in Punjab province. Mr. Hamid and his family were not in the building.
Demonstrators also entered former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar’s residence and set fire to the gate. However, he and his family were not at their residence at the time of the incident.

Hundreds of people were injured when the security forces tried to disperse the protestors.
Meanwhile, Javed Latif — a member of the National Assembly (MNA) — was injured by protestors after he had gone to negotiate on behalf of the government. Geo reported.
“We did not want to take action against the protestors and went to negotiate. I ask God to show [the protestors] the right path,” said Latif. However, officials confirming that several people were killed. Many of those injured are security personnel.

According to protesters, four of their activists were killed, but police rejected any deaths.
Protestors want the law minister to be sacked for bringing changes in a new version of the electoral oath. However the ministry has apologized for the mistake.
