The presidential press office announced that Afghanistan has recently signed an agreement with Iran on behalf of its citizens to defend their rights, which, according to this memorandum, all Afghan prisoners in Iran will be sent back to the country to revuew their legal issues according to the law of the land.
At present more than 5000 Afghan prisoners are being held in Iranian jails, with 617 transferred to the Afghan government, the statement added.
Iran’s media reported that an agreement on the Extradition of Prisoners was signed between Iran and Afghanistan in 1385 (soalr year), which many prisoners have been exchanged between the two countries.
Most Afghan prisoners in Iran are detained on charges of drug trafficking, illegal crossing of the border and criminal crimes.
