One week before the expiration of the ultimatum put by US President Donald Trump in the dispute over the nuclear deal with Iran, leading European politicians express their concerns about a possible war.
Emmanuel Macron believes it is possible that Trump will terminate the deal in the worst case without a follow-up agreement. “That means we would open the Pandora’s box, there could be a war.” According to German SPIEGel newspaper.

But that was not the intent of the US president, Macron said: “I do not think Donald Trump wants to go to war.”

Secretary-General of the European External Action Service Helga Schmid, who has decisively negotiated the agreement, emphasizes that Iran is sticking to the agreement. “The deal is not based on trust, it is based on facts and control and monitoring by the International Atomic Energy (IAEA).

US President Trump has repeatedly described the nuclear agreement as the “worst deal ever”. The agreement was concluded in 2015 under Trump’s predecessor Barack Obama between the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, Germany and Iran, and the EU was also involved.
