An American Newspaper reported that Chinese officials have recently met with Taliban representatives.
Pakistan has asked Chinese officials to meet with the Afghan Taliban, the Financial Times reported Monday 6 August, quoting a Pakistani official.
The Pakistani official who remained unknown has considered the talks between Chinese government officials and Taliban representatives as a new progress in line with Afghanistan’s peace process.

According to the Pakistani official, China wants to play a role in resolving the 17-year war in Afghanistan, China wants to push for peace talks under the leadership and ownership of the Afghan government.
During the past year, Chinese officials have hosted Taliban representatives in the country several times, but the exact time of their last meeting is unclear, according to FT report.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry did not reject the talks and has said: “China always supports Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace efforts.”

The Afghanistan High Peace Council (HPC) neither reject nor confirmed the report, but announced that any country’s efforts for Afghanistan peace process are important.
This comes as the leaders of NUG confirmed that American officials and Taliban representatives have met in Qatar several times.

President Ashraf Ghani and CEO Abdullah accentuate that the people of Afghanistan own the peace negotiations and these meetings will only facilitate the peace process.
