The country’s chief of staff Gen. Sharif Yaftali who traveled to central Ghazni province Sunday said in a press conference that all government buildings are under the control of the security forces, but added that operations ongoing against the insurgents.
“the insurgents hide inside civilian houses,” he added.
Taliban stormed Ghazni City – 148 kilometers southwest of Kabul – early Friday morning.
Meanwhile, the provincial IEC chief Zahir Akbari said the election commission’s offices were set on fire in Ghazni city. According to officials, the communication systems in the city are still down as well.
Military officials confirmed foreign troops are on the way to provide assistance and air support to the Afghan troops on the ground.
Government officials have not commented about casualties in the city yet.
However, reports on the social networks indicate that over 100 people were killed and 145 injured people were transferred to the provincial hospitals.
