The talks are designed to set parameters for negotiations between the Taliban and the Afghan government.
“A Taliban delegation was in Tehran yesterday. They had comprehensive negotiations with the Iranian deputy foreign minister,” Bahram Qasemi said in a news conference broadcast live on state television on Monday.
The visit comes as the Iranian national security adviser Ali Shamkhani has recently traveled to Kabul and informed the Afghan officials of talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Taliban.
Regional experts believe the two Afghanistan’s neighboring countries Pakistan and Iran can have a key role in Afghan peace process. The two countries have prominent effect on Afghan domestic issues.
Some western countries, including America accuse Iran of supporting the Taliban group; allegations, which have been strongly rejected by Tehran.
