Adela Raz Appointed as New Afghan Permanent Representative to UN

Deputy Foreign Minister Adela Raz has been appointed as Afghanistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations.


Deputy Foreign Minister Adela Raz has been appointed as Afghanistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations.
Ms. Raz has been appointed by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to replace the country’s current permanent representative Mahmoud Saikal to the United Nations.
She assumed charge as the deputy foreign minister for economic affairs in mid-May of 2016.
Ms. Raz holds a BA with honors of triple majors in International Relations, Political Science, and Economics from Simmons College in Boston, USA.
She has started her career with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). In a message, UNAMA expressed congratulations to Adela Raz on her appointment.
“Congratulations to Adela Raz on her appointment as the new Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations, the first woman to represent Afghanistan in the UN,” the message read.
