Afghan Presidential Elections Delayed for 3 Months

The Afghan Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced preliminary results of the October parliamentary elections from southeastern Paktia province late Sunday.


The Afghan Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced preliminary results of the October parliamentary elections from southeastern Paktia province late Sunday.
According to the IEC, the presidential elections scheduled for April 20 will be held with a delay of three months on 20 July 2019.

Gulajan Abdulbadi Sayaad, chairman for the Independent Election Commission, said the commission is not in a position to hold the polls on the due date of April 2019 due to technical glitches, security concerns, and cold weather.
“The presidential elections, provincial councils, district councils, and the parliamentary elections will be held on 20 July,” IEC said.
According to the election calendar, the Presidential candidates have to register their names with the IEC in 20 days.

Simultaneously, the head of the election commission announced the preliminary results of the parliamentary elections for Paktia Province and added that about 80 percent of Kabul election data entered into the system and will be completed in the coming days.
