NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Tuesday in Brussels that Afghanistan will be discussed during the alliance’s defense ministers meeting.
Addressing a press conference ahead of the meeting, Mr Stoltenberg said that Afghanistan will be an important point in the agenda of the alliance’s defense ministers meeting.
“NATO is fully supporting the efforts on the Afghan peace process and the Taliban should know that they will not win on the battlefield,” he stressed. Adding that “While security situation remains serious, we see a unique opportunity for peace.”
“Allies fully support US efforts to reach a peaceful settlement in Afghanistan and our continued commitment, both with forces and funding is key to creating the conditions for peace,”
In response to a question, the SG condemned Taliban threats and all violence against journalists, calling freedom of the press “fundamental”.
