AIHRC Expresses Concerns over Children being Sexually Harassed at Schools

Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) described reports about sexual harassment of children at schools as a shocking issue, urging serious measures against it.

Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) described reports about sexual harassment of children at schools as a shocking issue, urging serious measures against it.
“There is no law in relation to harassment of children at schools to monitor it. This is our concern and the reports are shocking,” said Sima Samar, the head of AIHRC on Saturday.

The issue not only does concern AIHRC, but also the people.
A number of families say that if the children’s sexual harassment issue is not taken seriously, they have to stop their children from going to schools.
In addition to sexual abuse, traditional correction and physical harassment of children are also common at schools.
Some children are deprived of courses and continuing education due to the violent behavior of teachers and school officials.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Education says it will create an emergency policy aimed at preventing sexual abuse of students at schools.
“This is not acceptable for education in any way, and this is contrary to our religion and culture. Today we have decided in the leadership council to create an urgent policy in this regard,” Ibrahim Shinwari, the deputy to the ministry of education told reporters on Saturday.
Mr. Shinwari assures that by making a new policy, such events will be seriously prevented.
