Alice Wells Calls for Transparent Election in Afghanistan

Ambassador Wells met with the IEC’s Commissioners this morning to hear about their preparations for the upcoming presidential elections in September, US embassy twitted.
During the meeting, she stressed the importance of a transparent, credible election process, of making swift preparations to complete voter registration, and hiring and training the staff needed to conduct the elections in a timely manner.
Arriving in Kabul, Ms Wells has separately met with NUG leaders and discussed the importance of holding the presidential elections on its determined time.
Ambassador Wells stressed U.S. support for timely, credible elections in September during her meeting with CEO Abdullah Abdullah.
The Afghan presidential election is expected to be held in September, simultaneously with the provincial districts elections and the parliamentary election for Ghazni province.
