Mohammad Ashraf Ghani will leave Kabul for Saudi Arabia Thursday to attend OIC summit in Mecca.
This is the 14th summit of the heads of Islamic countries. The 13th round of the Islamic summit was held last year in Turkey.
“Mr Ghani will address the meeting and will talk about the role of Islamic countries in the Afghan peace process, the fight against terrorism and economic cooperation,” Shah Hussain Mortazavi, ARG’s deputy spokesman told reporters.
The OIC summit, which is scheduled to take place on May 31, will address “current issues in the Muslim world” and “recent developments in a number of OIC member states”, the official agenda states.
According to Mortazavi, Ashraf Ghani will meet separately with the heads of Islamic countries on the sideline of the meeting.
The Afghan peace process is expected to be one of the key issues of the OIC summit. OIC has previously held meetings about Afghanistan and the peace process.
